If you’re thinking of checking us out one Sunday, here are a few common questions you may want answered in advance.
What denomination is Christ Community United Methodist Church in Selinsgrove PA?
We’re a United Methodist Church.
What style of preaching can I expect?
In one word, expository. Sermons at Christ Community UMC are Bible-based, relevant, and easy to understand. An outline is available in the bulletin for note-takers, and a PowerPoint typically accompanies every sermon.
What do you have for adults?
We offer a variety of Sunday school classes for all ages, and adult small groups throughout the week. Additionally, we offer child-specific ministry with our Awana and Youth Programs.
I don’t think my child will sit quietly for the service – what should I do?
Children are always welcome to participate in worship! Most Sundays, a special Children’s Message is given to help children feel welcome during worship and relate to the sermon topic. However, a nursery is also available during worship services for children under 5.
What style of music do you play?
We recognize that tastes in music vary for every person. Christ Community UMC is blessed to be able to offer two very similar worship hours with two distinctly different types of music.
Our 8:20 worship utilizes Christian “Pop” or contemporary music. The space for worship is intentionally less formal, and our Praise Team leads us in singing praise to God.
Our 10:50 worship utilizes traditional hymns of the Christian faith, including hymn responses (such as the Gloria Patri and the Doxology). The space is more formal. The pastor(s) robe and the organ, piano, and Chancel Choir all aide in leading the congregation in worship.
What’s the Same?
The sermon, children’s message, formal prayers, and creeds are the same at both worship hours. Likewise, the basic liturgy (or format) is also the same.
What should I wear?
Dress comfortably. You’ll feel right at home wearing anything from shorts, to jeans, to business casual.
